The qualification line
A home care nurse holds a GNM or B.Sc Nursing qualification, a valid State Nursing Council registration and at least six months of ICU experience. A nursing attendant or care taker needs none of that — 10th pass is the formal requirement, and the role is open to candidates with zero to one year of experience. A GDA or patient-care course helps at the interview but is not asked for.
What each role is allowed to do
Nurses perform clinical work: injections, IV fluids, wound dressing, catheterisation, Ryle's tube feeding, tracheostomy and ventilator care, and medication as prescribed. Attendants handle activities of daily living: hygiene, feeding, mobility, positioning to prevent bed sores, and reporting any change in the patient's condition.
An attendant must never perform clinical procedures. That boundary is a patient-safety rule, and it is enforced.
Pay difference
Home care nurse roles start at ₹30,000 per month. Attendant and care taker pay is set by experience and duty hours and sits below the nurse band, but comes with the same timely-payment and duty-material support.
Moving from attendant to nurse
It is a real path, but it runs through qualification, not seniority. Attendants who complete a GNM or B.Sc Nursing course and register with their State Nursing Council can move into nurse roles, and documented home-care experience counts strongly in their favour at the interview.
