Home care nurse salary in India

Home healthcare pays differently from hospital nursing. Pay is tied to the duty pattern and the criticality of the case rather than to a fixed hospital grade. Here is how it actually works.

What is the starting salary?

Home care nurse roles in these openings start at ₹30,000 per month for candidates with six months of experience and a valid State Nursing Council registration. Nurses handling critical cases — ventilator, tracheostomy or ICU-at-home — are placed at the higher end of the range.

On top of the monthly figure, most placements include medical insurance, free duty material and free accommodation for outstation candidates. Those three together are worth several thousand rupees a month in real terms.

12-hour versus 24-hour duty

A 12-hour duty is a single day or night shift at the patient's home. A 24-hour duty means you stay at the residence with a scheduled rest period, and it is paid at a noticeably higher monthly rate.

Most nurses start on 12-hour duties, then move to 24-hour postings once they are comfortable with the case type. You are not forced into a duty pattern you have not agreed to.

Does the locality change the pay?

Less than you would expect. Bangalore pay is set by the case rather than by the postcode, so a ventilator case in Yelahanka and one in Koramangala sit in the same band. What the locality does change is how often a case comes up: Whitefield, HSR Layout, Koramangala and Electronic City carry a heavy concentration of post-operative and elderly home-care cases, so assignments there turn over faster.

The practical effect is on your commute, not your salary. Naming a preferred locality when you apply gets you a posting you can sustain for months instead of one you leave over travel time.

What increases your salary fastest

Three things move your pay the most: critical-care skills (ventilator, tracheostomy, IV and central-line handling), a clean record of completed long-duration cases, and willingness to take 24-hour duty. Nurses who hold a case for six months or more without interruption are usually the first to be offered higher-paying assignments.
